Squash

  1. DEFINITION

‘Club’ means The Sarawak Club.

‘Convenor’ means the Club Squash Courts Convenor and his appointed Sub- committee.

       “SST” means Sales and Service Tax.

 

  1. RULES OF SQUASH

Rules of the International Singles Game of Squash Rackets as adopted by ‘Persatuan Squash Sarawak’ shall apply to all games.

 

  1. WHO MAY PLAY

All members of the club as defined in Rule 7 of the Club’s Rules are eligible to use any of the squash courts subject to these bye-laws.

 

  1. GUESTS (w.i.e. 23.08.2023)

Members bringing in guests to use the Squash must comply with Rule 39 and will be         charged RM10.00+SST per guest per day. Members shall be responsible for the observance of the Club Rules and Bye-laws by their guests.

 

  1. OPENING HOURS

The squash court shall be opened for use during the following times:

Mondays to Sundays                                                8.00am to 9.30pm

 

  1. BOOKING OF SQUASH COURT

a)    The charge is RM2.50+SST per half hour per court.

b)    Booking can be made up to one (1) day in advance on first come first serve basis.

c)    Members can make bookings either in person at Sports Counter or over the telephone.

d)    Consecutive booking on any court or combination of courts by the same Member is allowed for a maximum aggregate period of two (2) hours only in the   same day, provided in the event free courts are available; any member is allowed to book a further half hour session and so on.

e)    Members who fail to show up for their booking will still be charged the full amount of the booking.

f)     Any cancellation must be communicated to the Sports Counter with at least four (4) hours notice period before the start of the booking.

g)    If the member reserving the court does not occupy it within ten (10) minutes after the time stated in the booking register, the member will still be charged but the court may be used by other members subject to paying the appropriate charges.

  1. EQUIPMENT

Players are required to provide their own rackets and balls. Only non-marking balls shall be used. No aluminum or steel framed rackets shall be used in any of the courts.

 

  1. DRESS CODE

Members and their guests are required to wear predominantly pastel colored clothing and non-marking shoes. Only indoor non-marking court shoes are allowed. All other shoes, including tennis shoes, are not allowed.

 

Members wearing other than the above-mentioned footwear will not be allowed into the courts. The court attendants will have the right to bar any improperly attired member from playing.

 

  1. DAMAGE

Members who cause damage to the floorings, glass panels or the walls will have to make good such damages caused by that member by paying to the Club the cost of repairing the damage.

 

  1. CHILDREN

Associate child members between the ages of 14 to 16 may book the courts in the normal manner except on Saturdays and Sundays where bookings shall be made only from 8.00am to 4.00pm.

 

Children under 13 years of age MUST play with an adult at all times.

 

  1. USE OF COURTS FOR COMPETITIONS AND TOURNAMENTS

The Management Committee reserves the right to book or cancel any bookings of squash courts for the purpose of holding competitions, friendly matches, exhibitions or any activity as the Committee may deem fit.

 

 

  1. OPEN SESSIONS RULES

A.     Junior and associate child members are not eligible to play on open sessions after 4.00pm unless with prior consent of the Convenor / Sports Member.

B.     Members playing on open session will have to register their names in the order of their arrival at the courts on a first-come first-serve basis. A board has been provided for such a purpose.

C.      Members must register in person before playing. If they do not do so or if their registration is done by others on their behalf, they are not eligible to play. If a member has registered but is not in sight when his / her turn is done then he/she loses the turn and moves to the bottom of the game.

D.     Members are allowed to play to a maximum of 5 games per set or 30 minutes whichever is lesser in any of the courts on open sessions.

E.      For two courts on open days matches will be based on 3 games or 20 minutes, whichever is lesser.

F.      Those members playing without scoring will be asked to stop playing immediately to allow others to play.

 

  1. OFFENDERS

A.    A fine of RM15.00 shall be imposed on the first offence on any member who or whose guest breaches any of the bye-laws.

B.    For the second and subsequent offence, a fine of RM50.00 shall be imposed.

C.    The squash Sub-Committee reserves the right to suspend for a period not exceeding 6 months a habitual offender from the squash courts.

 

  1. AMENDMENTS

The Management committee may from time to time, add to, alter and repeal Bye-laws for the regulation of the affairs of the club. Such Bye-laws so made, added to, altered or repealed shall come into operation and binding on members after they have been posted in the Club premises for fifteen days.
